Course Learning Objectives: 

After viewing this module you will be able to:

  • To describe the increased risk of CHD in older adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
  • To present the epidemiology of CHD in older patients with DM
  • To identify risk factors for CHD and establish the importance of treating these risk factors in patients with DM
  • To analyze how the pharmacologic management of CHD risk factors, namely DM, differs in older adults compared to younger adults and summarize first-line pharmacologic therapies used in the treatment of CHD risk factors
  • To demonstrate common adverse side effects of diabetes medications and CHD risk factor management in older adults, including hypoglycemia and hypotension
  • To identify important considerations providers should account for when developing plans of care in older adults with DM and CHD, including lifestyle interventions
